Sony Ericsson to become part of Sony.
I got a confusing email from Sony today to let me know that Sony Ericsson is becoming part of Sony. Not exactly clear what that means, but it is clear that Sony needs to cut back.
The latest financial report from the company shows a US$2 billion loss in the last quarter alone, and many are wondering if the Western launch of the PS Vita can make the big bucks for the company, in an era when dedicated portable gaming devices are losing ground to smartphones and tablets.
Meanwhile Sony Ericsson will be hoping the upcoming and very blocky-looking Xperia S will generate income. The specs are looking pretty good - 1.5GHz dual core processor, 720p front-facing camera for Skype, 4.3 inch ‘Reality Display’, and a promised upgrade to Android 4.0 later in the year.
