Drones to be given access to all US airspace.
The US Congress has passed a bill allowing the FAA to spend $63.4 billion modernizing the US air traffic control system, which is set to be completed by 2015.
The changes will allow unmanned aircraft (drones) into all US controlled airspace - they are currently only allowed to patrol the borders and train in military zones. Aside from the US Military, 300 other public and private companies also use unmanned drones in the US.
The NextGen system will also allow for more efficient aircraft approaches and precision landings, using an ADS-B system.
