CERN to ramp up LHC in search of the Higgs boson.
CERN yesterday announced they will increase the power of the Large Hadron Collider from 3.5 to 4.0 TeV per beam - 8 TeV in total. The higher power will boost the machine’s sensitivity to the Higgs particle by 30 to 40 percent.
The scientists are hoping for a breakthrough discovery in 2012, before the LHC goes into a planned long shutdown to prepare for higher energy operations.
