Video: Electric multicopter makes first manned flight.

Jump right into 1:50 to see this machine take off. While it may seem like four store-bought quadrocopters taped loosely around a swiss ball, the team behind it says ”this could be the future of flight”.

The concept was developed by a graduate physicist, with the control system developed to be as simple as driving a car. As the parts are all straight off store shelves, they would be easily replaceable. Having four separate quadrocopters, each with four individual motors and propellers, means there is plenty of room for redundancy should one or even several fail in-flight.
